Touareg RNS850 Navigation System Overview

The RNS 850 navigation system, available exclusively for the Touareg, supports the driver and other occupants both on and off the road. With (optional) features such as 3D map display and plastic elevation display, it was a competitive model right from the start. The over 8″ Measuring touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels enables intuitive and easy operation of the entire entertainment system. On exactly that display, it is possible to play movies in AVI format via the integrated DVD player when the vehicle is stationed. And when driving, music can be played in MP3 or AAC format. The internal memory with 60GB capacity is particularly suitable for this purpose. If this memory is not sufficient, it can be extended with two integrated SD card readers. One card with a capacity of 32GB can be used per slot.

The optionally available navigation functions convince with innovation. Especially in off-road areas, the plastic height model can help the rider to better assess gradients and inclinations. In road traffic, on the other hand, it keeps the driver up-to-date with the integrated traffic jam warning and the display of speed limits and can protect against unwanted surprises, such as a traffic jam behind a bend.

Business telephony and AppConnect incl. CarPlay are recommended as additional optional equipment. The former offers comfortable hands-free options in the car and in addition it comes with a Wi-Fi hotspot. Especially on long distances, the Wi-Fi hotspot can make a big contribution to travel entertainment. The AppConnect service, on the other hand, can mirror selected content from iPhone or selected Android smartphones to the vehicle’s touchscreen.
